Cook with what you have on hand

By Anne-Marie Bonneau, Zero-Waste Chef

After looking through your refrigerator and cupboards, challenge yourself to cook a dish that you can make with what you find. Not only will you waste less food, but you’ll also reduce emissions and save money. People have been cooking this way more during Covid in order to avoid unnecessary trips to the grocery store.

No-recipe recipes that use up this and that include soup, but also fried rice, galettes, hand pies, frittata, and pizza. Top your pizza with leftover sauces and dips. On mine, I often spread hummus that I’ve made quite runny, pesto, or delicious cultured cashew cheese. Arrange random sliced vegetables on the sauce.
