Green Change at Ember Stomp

We hosted our popular Green Change Exhibit at Ember Stomp 2025, to help visitors go green and cool the earth. This free festival about wildlife prevention and climate resilience took place in the Marin Fairgrounds in San Rafael, on Saturday, September 6
Our family-friendly Green Change Exhibit featured fun games and activities for all ages, as well as information about sustainable living. Featured activities included Green Tips, Green Pledges, Anytown USA and Game Changers
Through these playful activities, people learned about climate action, clean energy, electric vehicles, green homes and gardens, wildfire prevention, healthy food and resilient communities. Our big earth globe attracted hundreds of visitors to our environmental Zone near the lagoon, next to other partners like Resilient Neighborhoods and Zero Waste Marin.
This lively exhibit is produced by Green Change, a nonprofit climate action network that helps thousands of people go green in Marin, the Bay Area and beyond. Thanks to our sponsors at the County of Marin, Marin Community Foundation and MCE for their supporting our exhibit! Green Change is a project of Sustainable Marin

Youth

This year, we had the pleasure of working with three young climate activists, who joined the Green Change team to host our exhibit that day: Erica Durwood, Mae Freas and Maija Blom.
They were wonderful collaborators and brought invaluable new energy to our team, engaging participants to play games and discuss climate action.
Our young volunteers also benefited from joining our production team for the day, and seeing how climate activists work. They told us it was a valuable learning experience for them.
And it also helped us improve what we do as a team. Most importantly, bringing young people up the activist ladder like this seems important for growing our climate movement, across generations.

Impact

We connected with hundreds of people at Ember Stomp 2025, and helped about 150 participants learn about climate action, which is a great outcome.
During this event, about 60 people played our environmental games. We engaged another 50 people in conversations about climate action, and shared dozens of green tips with them.
We also took photos of 15 participants who made a green pledge to take climate action. And we collected 15 newsletter signups and 10 emails were sent to government officials, asking them to help lower our electric rates
Overall, our exhibit had a positive impact on attendees, with many learning valuable new information. Participants loved playing our environmental games, and we had great conversations about climate actions they would like to take to protect our future. We particularly enjoyed engaging youth and diverse community members throughout the event.
Working with young advocates on our team was also a highlight of our experience at Ember Stomp. This collaboration between young people and older adults was very productive, and we all learned from each other.
Not only did we help visitors learn about climate action, but we also helped these young people with their professional development, and we built more capacity for our climate movement.
All in all, it was a very productive and inspiring day. 🙂

Event

Ember Stomp is Marin County’s annual wildfire prevention festival — a free, family-friendly event dedicated to education, preparedness, and community resilience. The 2025 edition took place on Saturday, September 6 at the Marin Fairgrounds in San Rafael, running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Organized by Fire Safe Marin, Ember Stomp brings together diverse partners to help residents learn how we can all prepare for wildfire. The festival features wildfire products and service providers, fire-smart landscaping exhibits, live burn demonstrations, a climate action zone, and fun activities for kids. Live music, food trucks, art, and even firefighting goats and sheep make it a lively community celebration.
This year introduced cutting-edge exhibits and simulations around climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and fire suppression innovations — giving attendees a more interactive experience than ever before. In addition to longtime festival favorites, thousands of residents connected with local organizations working for a safer, more sustainable Marin.
We’re grateful to Fire Safe Marin for their leadership, and to the many community partners who made Ember Stomp possible, including:
@ResilientNeighborhoods · @SustainableMarinTeam · @OneTam · @ZeroWasteMarin · Marin Conservation League · Marin County Sustainability Team · Green Change · and many more.
